An earlier post about how long an apple display lasts got me wondering ... how many people are using flat-panel monitors and how many of us are still plugging along with our huge, space-hogging CRT monitors? I'm using a 3 1/2-year-old Apple Studio Display that takes up half my desk. However, it works just fine, despite being left on all the time. That said, I'd love a flat-panel one, for various reasons, including reclaiming desk space. On the other hand, I can think of other uses for my money!

So -- am I in a dwindling group? Has everyone moved to flat panels?

Dual 19" CRTs. Good NECs.

A side benefit of the LCD popularity is that 19" monitors have really gotten cheaper. Since doubling your monitors doubles your failure/replacement rate, it's important to have a low unit cost. I've even been thinking of going triple.

I still use Apple's last CRT, the 17" Studo display. It works fine, though, I do dream of a day when it will die on me and I will be forced to buy Apple's 20" flat panel.

Apple's 17" ADC CRT here.

My only upgrade would be my dream monitor: a 22" LaCie. [/drool]

Of course, I'd use a cinema display if someone gave it to me.

That's the one I have as well. Knock on wood -- it seems to still be in great shape!

I have a 17 inch CRT that I got with my Yikes! G4/400. It hasn't died yet...

*knock on wood*

I'm not sure what I am going to get to replace it when it does die since I enjoy playing a lot of games.

I have a old 17" Sony Trinitron Multiscan 200GS that I use with my G4.

I've also got a dead Apple 17" Studio Display CRT, the sort that came with the the old Blue & White G3s. I think the picture tube is fine, and the case plastics are good just something wrong with the power supply.

I of course have my kickin alubook 12" lcd screen, LOVE it, also have a 12" crt, the crt gets up to 1152x870, more than my 12" pbook, so im happy with with it. Definetly would rather have a flat screen lcd tho, less space, and less heat. Maybe when I get more cash. *shrugs*
yep.

Have been using LCDs for a few years now - wonderful. I have a large CRT at work and do everything I can to work from home...

I'm still using the crt that came in my imac dv, that thing is very sharp. The other day for fun I plugged in a 17" I forget the brand crt monitor (to the vga out)and my imac crt was hands down better quality despite being nearly three years older than the 17" (which cost about $125).

Which reminds me, I am a big fan of the emac crt over the imac lcd's I've seen at the Apple Store, it seems to give a crisper more solid picture, though maybe it is just the lighting, the Stores are so shiny happy.
i look in your general direction

We run a Studio 17" for the main monitor and a Dell P991 19" Trinitron for color correction and add'l desktop space. Both run side by side at 1280x1024 and are on a DP867 MDD.

For the Al PB 15", I use a Viewsonic 17" CRT, but mostly because I already own it. It is attached by KVM to my PC at my desk.

My mom had a 17" ADC CRT for a while, but it had these sparks that scratched it from the inside. Nasty. But she just picked up a lightly used 22" Cinema... WOW! What an amazing display!

As for me, I recently replaced a cruddy Gateway EV700 with a brand new NEC 17" display. Super high refresh rates, very sharp... it's basically as good as an LCD, just bigger and heavier. Much better deal for the money. I'll get a 17" LCD when I can get a good quality one for $250, and I have the money. LCDs are still too expensive.

Using a four year old 21' Mitsubishi Diamond Scan. I dread the day it dies for rwo reasons.

1) The picture is so nice I would be afraid to not find another screen that can be as good. I have seent eh cinema displays and they are awsome but the color reproduction isn't 100% accurate.

2) I wouold have to move the 21" monitor.

By other hand, I have the 17" PB, awesome screen.

But well, if you want fun, read my topic: to be honest: tft or crt lacie (also in Peripherals), maybe someone could start a poll, crt or tft

As an aside, I recently picked up (on ebay) a new graphics card to replace the original ATI Rage 128 (or something like that) card that came with my G4 tower. Got it installed, along with a processor upgrade, then made the unpleasant discovery that the monitor couldn't be hooked up to it. (the card is DVI, I believe.) I was afraid of that! Anyway, so I was in an Apple store today trying to get a connector cable. They kept inisting it was a VGA (i think that's it) display and I kept saying, no I was pretty sure it was ADC. No one knew, no one would look it up to find out -- then FINALLY someone had me describe it and said, yes I was right.

According to them, I need a $100 adaptor. I said no thanks, it wasn't worth it. the card only cost about $38 and this computer is 3 1/2 years old. I think they're wrong as to the solution in any case.

So -- the monitor still works great, but it is somewhat limited in other ways. I found it interesting that no one there knew anything about it.
