I am the 2D/3D animator, and television graphics person at my TV station. Right now I use an external firewire DVD-RAM drive to back up my media projects. I like this solution because the media is 9.4 GB (4.7 per side), the discs are in a cartridge (protected from dust, etc.), I can rewrite on the media if I have to make a chage (like a big zip/Jaz drive), and so far (fingers crossed) I haven't had any trouble with this solution. My only real problem is that some of my projects are bigger than 4.7 GB, and thus I have to break up folders to span multiple disks. Add that onto the slow drive write speed.

So, anybody out there using anything else? I haven't really seen any write-ups in the magizines or websites I read about new large format, reliable storage solutions. I used to back up to DAT 12GB tape, but that was slow and not very user friendly.

Anybody got some good solutions? Any horror stories? Thanks in advance for joining my discussion!

I would back up to a large hardware RAID 3 or RAID 5 array.

Low-end ones are not terribly expensive, and more than sufficient.
