There's always posts about how bad something is, or how bad an experience was, etc. I thought I'd take the time to post a brief success story.
My 3G iPod has changed my life. I don't know how I lived without it. A couple months ago, it started acting a little funny. I would go to turn it on and it would reboot (the gray Apple) instead of just waking up. Maybe it's supposed to do that, I don't know. I blew it off. Then about a month ago, I noticed that it would all of a sudden shut off, even when the battery indicator said I had maybe 40% left. No warning, just gone. I started to get worried. I was about to take a long trip and I was counting on taking my tunes. The week before I was set to leave, it starting shutting down all the time, after maybe 2-3 hours of running. I finally had to call my local Apple Store.
The initially said "bring it in and we'll charge it overnight and run it tomorrow. If it runs 6-8 hours on a full charge, we consider this normal; otherwise, we'll replace it". I brought it in. While the "genius" was taking my info, I gave him a more complete description of the problem. He didn't say anything, but after he had the info, he went into the back room and emerged with a brand new, still in the clear wrapping, 30GB iPod and just gave it to me. No more questions, no testing, no having to send away for one, I just walked out 20 minutes later with a new iPod... grinning from ear to ear.
Maybe this is expected behavior, but I wasn't expecting it. The guy just took my word for it and handed me a brand new unit.
