Hello All,
I recently purchased a 12" iBook G4.
What I am looking for is a rather large bag, that can replace my briefcase yet still has a sleeve for the 12" laptop. The majority of the larger bags have only 15 or 17" sleeves.
When I mean large, I am looking for a briefcase replacement so I could carry (for example) a large technical book (think OSX Missing Manual size) a couple of magazine, and a lunch bag. and then still have room/container for the laptop.
Does anyone know of anything like this?
Thanks for any help,

If you're okay with a hard case you might check out some of Pelican's offerings; some of them even come with a briefcase insert for carrying papers, pens and such.
I'm currently using the 1500; it's deep enough to allow me to include an extra battery and the iBook power adaptor as well as my DV camcorder w/spare battery and extra tapes -- I use this case when flying as it fits under my seat.

I have a 12" PB and use Timbuk2's commute bag.
It's meant for a 15" laptop, but it's not like the thing slides around inside, or ever feels unprotected.
You could easily fit all the things you list inside.

a bit pricey but i love it. the bp3 from booq. it is made for the 15" but get a powersleeve 12. i have the 12" powerbook and the powersleeve in my bp3 backpack. the sleeve is such good quality, very protective, and that inside the laptop compartment of the backpack is snug.
the laptop is a nice size. i have filled it up with a lot of textbooks in it. on the booq site it says the book compartment can hold 6" worth of books. that is not an exageration. i have filled that thing up with college textbooks.
the quality of the backpack is amazing. i am not worried when i stand in the middle of a huge rain downpour with my backpack on. everything inside is completely dry.
like i said it is not cheap. you can get the bp3 system for $159. it is the bp3 backpack, a powersleeve, and two small accessory cases, that can be used for a cellphone, ipod, pda, anything that size. they can attach to the shoulder straps. if you spent $1800 on a laptop, what's an extra $159 to keep it safe?
no, i do not work, or are affiliated, with booq. i am just a backpack junkie who is so very impressed with their backpack.

Thanks,
The suggestions have been most helpful.
Sorry for not catching the thread in the Powerbook section.
Right now I am leaning towards the Spire VoltXL or the Meta.
It seems to be one of the few sites that is giving me a good enough view of what can be added to the packs that I would feel comfortable ordering it without seeing one in person.
In fact, my only concern may be that the Meta is TOO big.
Either way, you all have been most helpful.
