Is it possible to use any still camera with iChat? I mean, we can see full motion through the LCD viewfinder so why not a hack to use them as webcams?

That would be a function of the camera firmware, not iChat.

furthermore, all cameras short of the 1D have only USB 1.1 connections, which at 11 Mbps may or may not have sufficient bandwidth for real time video.

There are plenty of USB 1.1 webcams, and some MPEG-based USB 1.1 video capture devices. They work surprisingly well.

nvmd, i stand corrected. i guess i should have figured that one on my own, given that i used to have a color quickcam that zipped along on the serial port at all of 235kbps...
