I'd like to buy a new iPod and sell my 1st Gen 10G for around $100.

1. Should I wait until MacWorld New York for a possibe announcement on a new iPod? Do they usually announce music products at the NY one or the SF one?

2. I've heard rumors of bad sound quality with the new iPods for some unknown reason. What's the scoop?

1, Up to you!

2, Check with the sources of the rumours you heard? Or test drive one yourself in a store. But as far as I recall, only the iPod mini's have any known issues with sound quality. And even then, only a small number of them.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

The original iPod was intro'd at a special event.

I thought MWNY is now back in Boston and Apple no longer partaking?

I just replaced my old 10GB with a 3rd gen 40GB today. I figure that if Apple comes out with something new in a couple of months, I can still get back most of the money I paid for the 40 and put that towards the new one.
