I just bought an unbranded usb bluetooth adapter...but guess what? It doesn't work!

ASP recognises it as a "Bluetooth transceiver" and shows it as made by a company called "Broadcom Corp" (who recently bought out Widcomm by the sounds of things on the net). Anyway, it's a Bluetooth Class 2 device as opposed to the BT 1 and BT1.1 I'm seeing everywhere.

I'm wondering if that's the problem and if so, does anyone know if Apple will support class 2 devices any time soon? Or maybe, does anyone have any hints that I could try?

Thanks

My guess would be it doesn't work because your adapter is class 2 and as far as I know Apple only supports class 1 and 1.1 bluetooth devices. I would also guess that the next major release of Mac OS X codename Tiger might add bluetooth class 2 support.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. I'll have a look at the darwin source code and see if there's any hints about bluetooth class 2 drivers.

Let you know how I get on.

No idea, and the official websites ( http://www.bluetooth.com and http://www.bluetooth.org ) aren't exactly very easy to navigate - can't find the spec to download.

Easy to read chart with the 3 different bluetooth classes and their ranges.
