Hi, I recently bought a G4 iBook, and at home I use it with my Gateway VX700 17" CRT. This has a Mitsubishi Diamondtron picture tube, and offers a setting called "Fine Picture Mode". On all the PCs in the house, this improves colour and contrast settings significantly, however on the iBook's VGA out it puts bright green and turqoise distortion on the edges of fine details, especially text and the borders of windows. Why does this happen? It also occured on an old 486 I recently plugged into it. Is there anything I can change in the mac's video settings to fix it. I'd like to be able to use this feature as without it the screen tends to look quite dull and a bit washed out, even with contrast on maximum.

Cheers,
Nick.

Don't worry, I fixed it.

When calibrating the colour profile I needed to select 9300 for the colour temp. The auto setting causes the strange 'green colour bleeding' I was talking about.

Still, a bit of a strange problem.

FYI, I'd suggest that everyone find and download the free SuperCal utility. I used it to create a color profile for my external monitor that has MUCH higher contrast than any of the easily reachable settings would allow me to achieve. Terrific results on the built-in LCD too, actually.

whew, for a second there I thought your ibook came with a crt instead of an lcd. That would be a pain to carry around.
