Ok, I still don't have any candy, but I do have another question. My Powerbook's HD gave up the ghost this weekend, and I will be installing another one tomorrow. I have all of my music on my iPod. I would like to transfer this music FROM my iPod TO my new HD, without it trying to synchronize and lose all of my music. What exact steps and software do I need to do and have to have this perform flawlessly... (as this is my only backup of my music)?

Thanks

either ipodrip or podworks will do this.

if you're feeling fancy, you can get cocktail or tinkertool and make invisible files visible and then take the hidden music files off of the ipod.

any one of those ways should work fine for you.

Aye, Podworks will do the job quite well. It's a very handy little app.

Ok, thanks guys. 2 Things, is Podworks a shareware app...assuming on macupdate/vt?

Also, what do I do to ensure I dont have the Mac synchronize my "music" (i.e. deleting it) prior to opening this tool. Do I open podworks and then connect my iPod? In what order do I proceed to guarantee I don't lose any data? Thanks again!

I don't have an iPod but my guess is the first thing you want to do is open iTunes and uncheck the sync. option. Then quit iTunes and make sure it doesn't open while plugging in your iPod.

When I did that trick, I remember iTunes asked me, when I connected the iPod, if I wanted to synchronize the iPod with iTunes. (cant remember the excact words, it's been almost 2 years... ) If you say ok to this, your iPod will be deleted - or, updatet to match the emply itunes library. The use one of the above mentioned tools, and get your music back.

Hope this helps.

Is there anyone that has done this that can offer step by step instructions to ensure that I don't lose the data (music)? The hard drive arrives today. Thanks!

Get PodWorks. Pay $7. Plug-in iPod. Say "NO" to any offers to sync. Run PodWorks. Copy Songs to iTunes.

Need any more hand holding?

and dont open up itunes until you get all the music off (might synch when you dont want it to.)

and i dont think you ahve to pay the $7, you can still do it with the trial. and if you get stuck, dont be afraid of ipodrip i think that one has a full access trial period.

Won't iTunes automatically open when I plug in my iPod?

You could allways temporarily put iTunes in a folder, and stuff the folder, untill you're don copying the songs if you're realy worried about it, then un-stuff it when you're done.

Or, just trash iTunes, then download it from the Apple site later.
