At work, we have a researcher who has both a PC and G4 sharing a common keyboard/mouse and using a VGA monitor via an IOGEAR 2-port KVM switch (Model GCS52U).

Anyways, she'd like to ditch the CRT and use her 15" Apple ADC LCD instead, which should be no problem provided that we have the correct adapter.

After looking around it seems that only Gefen offers the VGA -> ADC Conversion box that runs for $299. Before I make a purchase recommendation, are there any other VGA -> ADC solutions available, or is Gefen the only one?

Here's the link in question:

Yes, there could be other approaches to getting the display to work, but we already have the KVM switch with a VGA output and thus it'll cost more to replace the video cards to DVI, and so forth.

I think I'll also offer the option of just getting a third-party LCD monitor with a VGA port or both VGA/DVI. That way it can be used elsewhere if needed and easy to replace. We only have 2 Macs at our lab so I'm not sure what would happen if the LCD went dead and would then be a choice of either another Apple LCD or a third-party LCD in which case if the latter option is chosen, the VGA -> ADC box would just be an expensive paperweight.

Thoughts?

Can she live with using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection client? She won't need the KVM switch anymore since she can run programs on her PC from her Mac.

She's running Windows 2000 so terminal services are not an option. But thanks for your suggestion.
