Canon, they are quieter, the ink is waaay cheaper, they quality is as good as epsons, the drivers are the best and most of all... THEY DON'T CLOG EVERY TIME YOU USE IT LIKE AN EPSON!

"Hello, what have we here?

What do you want to do with your printer?

Canon has RIP support for sure, if it is better than Epson's, I have no idea.

..it's for my sister , she's doing a graphics course at college

..she is using photoshop and illustrator a lot and will be using indesign and or quark xpress

..i was lead to believe that you require a R.I.P. for these programs , there seem to be loads for the epson but very few for the canon

..that;s the ONLY reason i'd get the epson over the canon , personally i've switched from epson to canon , i bought the i865 and its beautiful - quiet , uses no ink and exc quality

..i did have the i9950 on order but i'm looking at 3-4 months delivery , cant wait that long !

well, having spent three hours fighting canon printer drivers (eventually winning) I've resolved never to buy one ever, ever again.

the best a3 printer on the market is the epson 2100/2200 (same model, just different name depending on where you live)

Trying to add a printer in the Print Center: "Drivers not installed" always kept coming up when the printer was recognised under USB.

The solution? Print setup repairer completely had to delete everything - prefs, caches, etc; and canon drivers - then reinstall the lot.

Joy.

I don't quite understand.
I have used different Canon inkjets and have never ever encountered a driver problem. In fact, I have never had to install any driver as well (I'm not using a RIP, though).

Also, about the RIP, isn't it important that you find one good RIP? I have never had the need to use one, and maybe your sister doesn't need to either (I can't tell, because I don't know), but AFAIK there are some generic RIPs (meaning for Epson, HP, Canon, and possibly others) like PowerRIP 2000 by iProof. Again, I'm no expert, so I cannot give any advice about `the best RIP' or so.

And that says what about the print results? Are the results ok now? How about the mechanics of the printer? Speed?

The only one of those that would require a RIP is Quark. Of course, Quark is just wrong on so many levels...

In a recent test of A3+ printers in MacUP, they praised the Canon printers' speed and ink, but found that Epson had more accurate color for proofing purposes. For college use, either of them will be accurate enough, and the Canon will be more economical and speedy to run.

I don't quite understand ... Canon does have a RIP ... just follow the link that I have posted. The RIP is available for OS X and Windows and works with Epson, Canon, and other printers.

The link you posted states that the RIP is for HP and Epson. Canon is not mentioned.

I got the link from the Canon website.
Oh, I think I now know what happened. The old OS 9 PowerRIP 2000 supports Canon printers, but the new one for OS X doesn't.
