FYI, I did do a search, and did not come up with anything. So if someone has already posted this, just post the link to the thread. Thanks!

Anyway, I have a 30 GB iPod. Yesterday weird things started happening. I hadn't used the iPod for several hours, so it had turned off. I tapped one of the buttons to turn it on, and got the Apple logo screen. However, it would not go past this point - it just froze. So I reset it several times...same thing.

I decided to try to a Restore via the iPod Software Updater (4-28-04). Since the iPod couldn't get past the Apple logo, and therefore it couldn't be mounted, I switched into Disk Mode. iTunes opened up, and I could see the iPod just fine. However, when I opened up the iPod Updater, I got a message saying something like, "Your iPod software has been updated to version 2.2. Please leave the iPod connected to let the update complete." It also unmounted the iPod.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod several times. Sometimes, the same thing as above would happen. However, sometimes, the iPod just wouldn't mount, and the updater would launch. I'd click Restore, enter my password, and get an error saying "An unexpected error occurred. The Mac OS error code was -60008."

So, 1-800-SOS-APPL is closed, as is 1-800-APL-CARE (for Memorial Day). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh, and I tried to submit a repair request online. But Apple didn't update my last repair, so it's still marked "Open", and it won't let me request a new one!

i had a problem very similar to this. it ended up with me sending my ipod back to apple and them sending me a brand new one.

it would just reset itself and not get past the apple logo. it would stay there until the batteries died. doing the restore from my powerbook would fix it, but in a day or two it would reset back to the stuck apple.

i have a new ipod now. this was back in march.

sorry

Hmmmm. If I zeroed the drive in Disk Utility, could I put the software back on with the iPod Software Updater app?

Any luck with that? I've got a 15 GB 3G iPod with the same problem. It's running 2.2 software. It justs sits at the Apple logo forever -- I'm not even sure how to turn it off other than let the battery run down. When I reboot it and boot it into forced FireWire mode ("Disk Mode"), iTunes can see and update it fine. I backed up it's contents and restored it to factory state with the newest iPod Updater, and I got to the language selection menu on the iPod..I thought it was working. I plugged it in, copied the data back, unmounted and unplugged...it sat at the "OK to Disconnect" screen. Rebooted it, and now it's stuck at the Apple logo again.

Just for the heck of it, I rebooted into the debug menu and ran a "HDD Scan", and it failed. yet, I can read and write many gigs with the drive just fine.

Any ideas?
