I have an external FAT32 harddrive on my windows machine right now full of all my music. I might buy a mac for college, and was wondering how FAT32 works with macs. can i write and read off it with a mac? There's no way i'm going to reformat it and lose all my music.

Yes, Macs can read and write to FAT32 volumes right out of the box.

However, you should stick with storing flat data files on the volume. Applications probably won't work right.

Couldn't you just hook up the FAT32 to the new Mac and copy all the music over first before formatting?
