Looking to get either a 128 or 256. Which brands are the best? The design is important too. I read where the Memorex ThumbDrive connection to the keychain holder is poor and breaks off easily. Need something small and very durable.

The ThumbDrive does look and feel cheap, but it was relatively compact compared to the competition when it first came out. My recommendation is that you don't use the keychain feature.

I currently carry a Zio! with a 512 MB removable SD card. It's not as compact as the ThumbDrive, but it's more flexible.

Check out the price lists at dealram. Good place to find deals.

I've got a Lexar 128. The case is crappy. The cap keeps falling off and the key chain loop looks like it would break just getting it on the key chain.

I bought a Memorex thumbdrive, because of the form factor but I was really disapointed in how cheap the cap is, and it will definitly break off in time. The main housing holding the flash memory is study enough, and it works well enough, I just can't put it on a keychain.

As a side note, I wrote and complained ant the cheap construction and design of the cap and they sent me a new one. So it sounds like they've prepared for a lot of them to fail.

Because this was on sale for a really good price I purchased it, but the other one I was tempted by was lexar. Take a look at theirs.

how about the Lacie data watch? 128Mb and tells the time, so you're less likely to lose it.

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

I used to have DiskOnKey 8 & 16 MB drives but just bought a 256 MB Lexar JumpDrive. Cost was only $49 after a $10 rebate, and it's much smaller than what I used to have.

Well I don't own a thumbdrive device, but Sandisk just released a Cruzer that resists 2000 crush pounds. See this link for info on the unit (512MB) http://www.sandisk.com/retail/cruzer-titanium.asp

I used a lexar for a long time and it never failed on me. I'm using another one now (256MB & different model) and its performing well under heavy read/write usage and storage.
You heard me! Sod off, Sadr!
