1) With the latest LCD monitors (ie Apples 20" or 23" Cinematic) do I get more desktop width or does it just stretch my current single desktop to it's widest width?

I currently have a 21" CRT for my main monitor and a 17" CRT for my pallets and e-mail etc. I guess I'm worried that with a Cinematic I won't actually be gaining any desktop space and will just be making my images disproportionate.

2) Are the colors / contrast resolution etc good enough for doing high end color correction and photo manipulation etc? (I'm a graphic designer)

I've read old posts on other boards that the LCDs couldn't be calibrated and weren't as accurate. I'm sure much of that has changed in 3 years, but should make sure before I recommend a model to my boss.

Thanks for your input.

Never fear, Cinema displays don't stretch your images, they are simply wider than typical 4x3 displays. As for using one for color correction, etc., I expect that when correctly calibrated Cinema displays are as good as any LCD on the market. There are some graphics pros who would say you shouldn't use a LCD for color correction but I tend to disagree. In my experience, CRT monitors continually need recalibration anyway, so I don't understand that opinion. There is a minor issue with viewing angle affecting perceived color on LCDs so perhaps that's the issue for some.
