I'm in Hawaii for 10 weeks and have my new 12" PB with me (10.3.3). I want to buy a printer that I will just toss when I leave. WalMart sells the HP3520 for about $40. Is there an alternative that isn't any more? A Canon for that price that people like? The only two drawbacks to the HP are compatability and the fact that the cartridges last only about 200 pages. I don't want to end having to buy new cartridges in 6 weeks.

I was using a lexmark z23 for a while. I think canon makes like an i260 or something.

Lexmark printers aren't half bad. I used to have the Z22. My brother has the Z23. Now I have a Epson C62 and I miss my Lexmark because the C62 sucks because it can't take in paper at all. I have to manually hold the paper vertically in the printer for it to be able to pull it through. I never had this problem on a Lexmark.
The only thing is the ink for inkjet printers cost about the same if not more than the printers do.

The wife has the $39 Canon i275 and it's a decent printer and prints very good.

In general, a good suggestion. Except that the nearest Kinko's to me in Maui is over 20 minutes away.

There's gotta be some other franchises there. Maybe some Mom & Pop operations?

Use Yahoo!'s Yellow Pages directory. Enter your location in "Change Location" and then do a search for 'printing'. You'll find dozens of print shops on Maui.

haven't you heard? printers are now disposable. You can get a decent Lexmark for around $26-30. When it runs out of ink, each cartridge costs about that. And if you need both cartridges replaced, you'd have to pay double what you paid for the printer in the first place. Yeah right! If a $30 printer suits your needs, once it's done toss it out and get a new one. I know people who do that.

Yeah I know people who do that to. It just stupid how the ink cost more than the printer. I don't mind paying the price of ink because I don't print a lot.

Yes, the nearest is just about a half mile down the street. But it is a pain to run down there every time you want to print just one page. And then again 15 minutes later when you want to print another. Also, I would guess that I would print about 200-300 pages in 10 weeks (that's only 4 per day!) and the places seem to charge about 10 cents per page--almost enough to buy the printer.

For 10 cents a page, you get laser quality printouts, free paper, and some exercise!

But since there are four of us here sharing the machine, the only feasible and peace producing solution is to buy a cheap printer. Anyone got some other machine suggestions? Anyone tried the HP3520 and had good luck with 10.3.4?

I bought a Lexmark Z25 for $38 at KMart. Probably a few dollars more than the same printer on the mainland, which seems to be the way in Hawaii. The printer works fine so far.
Anyone come with anything cheaper?
