Is anyone able to put a hard drive on the same buss as a retro fitted super drive? whenever I do, and try to burn a disc, toast makes a coaster.

Yeah don't do this at all , you need to have the hard drive and the super drive (especially a pioneer) on separate busses because when me and my cousin built a PC the pioneer DVD R+- specified in the manual that it need to be on a separate bus then that of the hard drive or any other device that would occupy one, so yeah, give it it's own dedicated bus.
