I have come into the opportunity to purchase a 22" Apple Cinema Display with ADC connector for a very good price. I have personally inspected the display and there are no stuck or broken pixels or blemishs on the plastics. Since I have never had a Cinema Display (always laptops), is there anything I should know about the displays, anything I should be made aware of that can be an issue with this model? What is the approx. life on a monitor like this?

That display has to be a couple of years old. The life of a LCD panel, I think, is generally estimated at five years. After that there is pretty high risk that the backlight will go out. I'd say you'll be happy with it, but I'd expect you to get it at WELL BELOW $1000 otherwise I'd suggest you consider saving for a 20" Cinema for $1299. It has the same or more pixels as the 22" model. Also, keep in mind that the rumor mill suggests that there will soon be a newer 20" Cinema for less money and it might be as low as $1000. Those are just my thoughts, but if you get a good price, there's definitely something to be said for buying a tried and true display with no dead pixels.

Yes, I took all of those things into consideration but I got this one from a company that was getting rid of them. They were just gonna dump them in some school and I convinced them to sell me one. The display is just under three years old from what I'm told, I was just concerned with the backlight going out in the next 12 months is all. If something like that were to happen, is the display totaled or can a backlight be repaired/replaced?

Cinema displays have 4 backlights running vertically, AFAIK. It doesn't really matter whether the monitor is 2 years old or 6 years old, what matters is how much it was used. A 3 year old cinema display can be in better shape than a 1 year old one simply because of this...

Considering they were going to dump them in schools that's probably going to be a damn nice deal.

Yep, if it's cheap and in good shape, get it. I nearly drooled the first time I tried a 22" Cinema display in a store. If you have a laptop, I assume you know you'll need dvi and a dvi to adc adapter. Good luck with it!

Remember that backlight tubes can be replaced. The LCD panel itself basically will not wear out (as many a 15 year old calculator will prove).

Actually it's going to be used with a Rev. A 12" PowerBook which only has VGA out, not DVI. So I ordered Dr. Bott's new VGA --> ADC converter box. I'm gonna give it a go on Saturday and see how it works. Haven't heard any reviews on it since it is so new.

Got the monitor today. Beautiful thing, although it took me about 3 hours to drive from Agoura Hills to Fullerton even though it's only about 60 miles away. Works awesome with Dr. Bott VGA--->ADC adapter. I would recommend one to anyone!

So what kind of deal did you get on it, or is it a secret?

As do I. Sometimes I wish it could have an even brighter backlight in the day when there's a lot of light in the rooms but the screen is awesome otherwise

Thanks for the help everyone, and to show my appreciation, my gift to you:

http://www.idrivex.com/cinemahotties.sit

It's a collection of 7 Desktop Pics of the following women all rendered in photoshop to a wonderful 1600x1024 size. The whole package is 1.6 MB. All of the images come from various parts of the web. Some of them were originally smaller and I adjusted them in PS to make them work with the Cinema Display. They are all high quality:

(1) Angelina Jolie
(2) Britney Spears
(1) Elisha Cuthbert
(2) Monica Belluci
(1) Nikki Sanderson

Enjoy!
