In less than 60 days I have had to send back my Lacie 52x32x52 Firewire drive twice. When it was new it worker great, but within a couple of weeks would not mount on the desktop or spin up at all. I sent it back for repair and they sent it back about 3 weeks ago with a replacement noted that they tested and replaced the drive mechanism. In the last couple of days it started doing the same thing. I have just mailed it out again for repair. Has anyone elso had anyting like this? I bought Lacie because it seemed to have a good rep within the Mac community. But I am beginning to worry. I don't want to be sending this thing back in every 30 days or so. They covered shipping this time since it was within the 30 days of repair timeframe. Have I gotten a lemon?

You said "when it was new." How old is it now? I have a LaCie CD burner that failed within the one-year period and LaCie fixed it and sent it back without problem. That was a good 18 months ago and -- knock on wood -- have had no problems since.

You are doing everything correctly in terms of dismounting and powering down the unit, correct?

I mostlyh wanted to say that I, too, trust the LaCie brand and would buy again from them without problem. It is possible, of course, that you have a lemon. Have you asked for a new drive, instead of just repairs? And what have they said is wrong with it?
