Hi everyone,
When I plug my iPod into my G4 it draws power from the Firewire bus, but it does not mount on the desktop or get recognized by iTunes, iSync or the iPod Software Updater.
I've tried both of my Firewire ports, and gotten identical results. I don't know if it's related, but it was ever since I ran the iTunes 4.6 and the last security updates that I've had the problem.
I ran System Profiler, and clicking the Firewire tab bring up "No information found." I couldn't remember if this said something more useful before, so I fired up TechTool and became very worried with I found that the Firewire diagnostic test is now unavailable to me.
Does this mean that my Firewire bus is screwed, even though my iPod is still drawing power?
Thanks for any help,
Phil.

try resetting your ipod by holding down the menu and play button for 10 seconds (i think). or you might have to reformat your ipod.

Komisar, did you try my suggestion?
Keep in mind, it's probably more likely to be a Mac problem than an iPod problem.

Try resetting the NVRAM: boot holding down Command-Option-O-F until you reach the Open Firmware command line.
Type reset-nvram and press enter, then
type reset-all and press enter.
The Mac will restart.
If this doesn't help, shut down, open the Mac, and find the reset button on the motherboard. It should be near the battery. Press it ONE time.
If that doesn't help, it's unlikely anything else will, either.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
Komissar, I took a look at your other post, and decided to try to suggestion of pressing the PMU reset button on my motherboard.
This raised a whole new issue. I don't think I have one!! I can find the spot on the logic board labeled as "PMU RESET" and there are four little solder points, but no button. Am I just a moron and missing it?
Fortunately, after all this mess, I rebooted and my iPod worked and my Firewire bus was showing up again! I guess a few minutes powered down was all it needed. Weird.
Do you guys think my PMU reset button is something I need to worry about?
Thanks again for all the great suggestions, next time it happens I will have a lot more in my arsenal.
Phil.
