At my work we'd like to have a wireless keyboard & mouse that can operate from anywhere inside of a 40'x40' room. Do any long distance wireless keyboards and mice exist? I found tons that are limited by about 4 feet, 1/10 of what we need.

Get a Bluetooth keyboard and a high-powered 100ft Bluetooth USB module like this one.

The MX900 has a range of 10 m (33 ft).

I 3rd the bluetooth suggestion.

As a side-note, what size screen do you have that you will be able to see & use from 40' away? some sort of projection system?

They're 28" TVs mounted on the wall. We're using them for the Art History and Music Appreciation classes. We took some old beige G3s, used XPostFacto and got Panther on them, then hooked them up to the TVs (yes, the A/V out ports work on the Beige G3 under 10.) Also have iTunes and Portfolio 7, so they're all networked to the Music Appreciation MP3 database and the Art History Portfolio database.

The problem is that the computers are in the supply rooms behind locked doors and aren't always accessble. Also, the teachers want to be in the back of the class and be able to talk to the students while also viewing the material on the TVs.

We got some Logitech Radio based keyboards/mice and they work through walls and everything, but they're limited by 4 feet.

Does BlueTooth go through walls? I think they're just wood and drywall.

We don't have the budget for 4 $300 keyboards.

Doesn't the keyboard/mouse have to have the same signal strength?

I found this. Long range radio, up to 30 feet. I know radio is good for going through walls. Only $99. And the mouse can operate in the air.
