I want to set my grandfather up with my old PowerMac 7200/120. It is currently running OS 9.1 and doing quite well. Anyway, I need to find a way to connect it to a dialup modem. I have two lying around here from some of our old PCs. I have an external Netcomm Roadster II 56k. I checked on the Netcomm website and they have Mac OS drivers which is great news. However it has a a DB9 pc serial socket on it. I've seen a few places on the internet sell a DB25 -> DIN8 serial cable for Macs like mine. Is there some extra converter I could get to turn the DB9 (male) socket into a DB25?

The other modem I have is a PCI 'winmodem' out of a Gateway PC. I think it might be a Connextant modem chipset or whatever it is called. Are there drivers for one of these for Mac OS9?

Many Thanks,
MBP 2.16ghz 15"
iMac G5 1.6Ghz 17"

The external modem will definitely work with the appropriate cable. I did the same thing with my old Mac. Bought an external serial modem and replaced the cable with a Mac one. I don't know about any converters... I just know that I bought an actual Mac serial cable that fit the modem and plugged into my Mac's serial port.

As for the winmodem, there are no drivers for them, either under OS 9 or OS X.
