is the mic on the iSight always on? Or just on when the video is also on?

are you asking if it can be used for other things, or programs? Then the answer is yes. If you're asking if someone can spy on you when you're talking to your computer? Then probably no. No one is that bored with life to listen to you. (Joke)

I think it only turns on when you want it to, however you can still disable it off in iChat. I don't believe it records to anything unless you are purposely using it.

What I'm think of to have the mic always on to use for Speech triggered scripts. I accidently destroyed my old mic. I want to know if I can buy an iSight and use its built in mic as an always on mic for this purpose.

BTW: My mac always listens and usually does what I say, unless I've had too much to drink for it to understand me anymore.

to test for you, I plugged my iSight in and though the iSight audio in shows up in system prefs when the iSight is off, no actual sound will be picked up until you turn the camera on.
