Since installing the latest OS my Al-book thinks that I don't have a Bluetooth module, and the Sys prefs panel doesn't even show up. Worked OK before - uh? Anybody got an idea about this?

Try installing the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.1 if you haven't already done so:
