I just bought a Samsung i500 PDA/phone to use on my Sprint PCS and, although it's not officially supported for the Mac by Samsung, I have been able to get it to work and thought I'd share what I'd learned. I had been using a Palm m125 and Palm Desktop 4.1 and have grown quite attached to Palm Desktop, so I didn't want to switch to iCal and Address Book for a number of reasons. I also had a ton of info in my Palm/Palm Desktop that I didn't want to go through the hassle of exporting & importing.
Both PalmSource's and Samsung's support sections are essentially worthless, so here's what I can tell you to get your i500 working:
--You need to have Palm Desktop 4.1
--You have to have the phone part turned off to sync the PDA.
--If you're prompted for a user password (on the desktop) on the first sync, you need to clear the password on the i500. Turn the phone back on, then hit the menu button on the left side of the unit, then choose Options->Security and either set the password to "Disable" or click "Lost Password." Supposedly, the password is either "0000" (if your phone hasn't been activated) or the last 4 digits of your phone number (if it has been activated), but I couldn't get this to work. I did activate my phone on Sprint before I tried to sync with my 'puter.
--Turn off the "Photos" and "Voice Memo" conduits in the HotSync Manager (HotSync menu->Conduit Settings) . Make sure to choose "Do Nothing" and also set it as the default.
--If, after you sync, you get a message on the PDA that says "memory is full, hotsync backup file is corrupt, or teleopen is called too many times", you need to do a hard reset. Hold down the PDA power button (on right side of unit), then press and release the reset button (recessed, next to phone mic), then release the power button when the "Palm Powered" logo appears. Then you have to sync again.
It takes a little finagling, but ultimately this PDA appears to sync up at least as well as my m125 did.
