I am thinking to upgrade my B&W G3 (400MHz, with original Apple factory fitted SCSI card).

I am looking at upgrade in the following areas:

1. CPU upgrade
2. Hard drive upgrade
3. CD-ROM upgrade

For 1. CPU upgrade:

i. Is it worthwhile for me to get the Sonnet Encore G4 1GHz upgrade?

ii. Is Sonnet Encore G4 upgrade easy to install?

iii. Are there any other CPU upgrade available which offer G4 beyond 500MHz?

For 2. Hard drive upgrade:

i. Should I replace my current IBM SCSI hard disk with another SCSI hard disk, or should I get an Ultra ATA harddrive instead (Are SCSI hard drives always faster than the best ATA hard drive available on market)?

ii. Is it possible to keep my current hard drive, and install an additional SCSI or ATA hard drive within my G3?

iii. Would it be better off for me to replace my current SCSI card originally come with my G3 with a 3rd party one like adaptec?

iv. If I replace the SCSI hard disk, can I format the new SCSI drive using tht Apple hard disk utility comes with MacOS X? (I recalled back in the 80's and 90's, non-Apple hard drive cannot be formatted using Apple Utility. Is it still true?)

v. Is it worthwhile to get a Serial ATA card (e.g. Sonnet Tempo Serial ATA card) and get a Serial ATA hard drive instead?

For 3. CD-ROM upgrade:

i. I saw those Sony or Pioneer or LG or imation DVD+/-/RW drive with ATAPI interface available from PC stores, stating it's Windows compatible etc. Would those drive work as is, if I put it into my G3?

ii. If I replace my CD-ROM with the latest DVD+/-/RW drive with ATAPI interface from Sony or Pioneer or whatever manafacturer available, would that DVD+/-/RW be bootable (i.e. I can boot from the MacOS X CD/DVD in the drive to startup)?

iii. Would the ATA interface in my G3 fast enough to allow me to burn DVD at, say, 8x?

iv. If I install the drive, would it work with iTunes or iDVD (with or without patches)?

v. Would I be able to watch DVD (or even rip DVD) with Apple software (with region-free control, if possible)??
