To cut a long story short, my GF has to have a PC laptop in the house

We're probably going to get this one:

I know sod all about PC's so I was wondering if it will work fine with my Airport? I don't want to buy it and then find we both can't connect at the same time etc etc.

It should. Airport is just Apple's name for the 802.11 wireless networking standard which is used by every company nowadays for WiFi. 802.11b (aka Airport) is an older, slower version, and 802.11g (aka Airport Extreme) is a newer, faster version of the standard. b and g products work seamlessly with one another (though g devices communicate with b devices at the slower speed, obviously).

As is noted clearly, ALL AirPort questions belong in the Networking forum.
