I'm looking for a cheap ($200) printer that I can hook up to a wired/wireless router behind a cable modem. I would print via IP printing over the wired and wireless. The printer just needs to be able to connect to the router via ethernet. I looked at the HP deskjet 5850:

http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/pf-new.cgi?IN=http%3A%2F%2Fh10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/ho/WF06b/18972-236251-236261-14438-f25-305979-305981-305982.html

and it can do everything I'd like, but it has some bad reviews.

Can anyone else suggest a decent printer for this application?

Thanks
Gern

You've probably already considered this, but have you thought of using OS X's printer sharing? I have a cable modem that runs through a router to a PowerMac MDD and also run router to Airport to iBook. Hook the printer to the MDD, turn on printer sharing at both end, and I've got wireless printing from my iBook. May not be just what you're looking for, but it's an easy way to make the printer of your choice available to the network. HTH...

I have the HP 5850. It's connected via its built in 802.11 through my Airport base station to 3 Macs (2 wireless, 1 wired). I don't know what other reviewers are saying about the printer but I've been very happy with it. I think photos look great, and I like the borderless printing.

Of course, in July, you could buy just about any printer you want and connect it to your network with an Airport Express.

Yup.. USB printer sharing is the way to go... $200 is inkjet range and there aren't that many with ethernet (none I can think of immediately). I'd use that for a really good inkjet printer and then use USB printer sharing. It will work wirelessly too (The computer it's connected to though has to be awake).

The HP 5850 has built in wired ethernet and 802.11b and it costs $199. Here is a review:

Note that some users have postings that agree with mine--it's a very nice printer.
