I just watched the WWDC 2004 video, and Jobs was touting the fact that the new cinema displays have 100 pixels per inch. Is there some way to determine how many ppi my LCD has if it's not listed in the specs? I have a Samsung 213T.

Just do the math. Take the native resolution (eg. 1600x1200) to find the diagonal # of pixels. 1600squared+1200squared=(diagonal)squared.
so, 2000 pixels diagonally/21.3 inches (I'm guessing that's the size of your monitor) = 93.9 PPI.

Wow, thanks. I'm totally right-brained, so I'd've never been able to pound out such a computation (that, or I'm just lazy). Thanks again!

When I was monitor-shopping I worked out dpi and widths for some common LCDs. (The prices are all out of date). It's still not clear to me that widescreens offer better value, since they usually cost as much as a screen with the same width (in inches and pixels), but more height. But I agree they look sweet.
17-inch standard
Code:
resolution: 1280x1024
width: 13.27"
ratio (w/h): 1.25
dpi: 96
e.g. Samsung 173T, $493
17-inch widescreen
Code:
resolution: 1280x768
ratio (w/h): 1.67
width: 14.56"
dpi: 87
e.g. Samsung 172W, $510
e.g. Sony SDM-V72W, $849
19-inch standard
Code:
resolution: 1280x768
width: 14.84"
ratio (w/h): 1.25
dpi: 86
e.g. Samsung 192T, $686
20-inch standard
Code:
resolution: 1600x1200
width: 16.0"
ratio (w/h): 1.33
dpi: 100
e.g. Dell 2001FP, $800
20-inch widescreen
Code:
resolution: 1680x1050
width: 16.95"
ratio (w/h): 1.6
dpi: 99
e.g. Apple 20" Cinema Display, $1299
21-inch standard
Code:
resolution: 1600x1200
width: 16.8"
ratio (w/h): 1.33
dpi: 95
e.g. Samsung 213T, $1187
23" widescreen
Code:
resolution: 1920x1200
width: 19.50"
ratio (w/h): 1.6
dpi: 87
 e.g. Apple 23" Cinema Display, $1999
e.g. Sony P232W, $2159
e.g. LG 2320A, $2784
24" widescreen
Code:
resolution: 1920x1200
width: 20.35"
ratio (w/h): 1.6
dpi: 94
e.g. Samsung 240T, $2568
30" widescreen
Code:
resolution: 2560 x 1600
width: 25.4"
ratio (w/h): 1.6
dpi: 100
e.g. Apple 30" Cinema Display, $3299
