any thoughts on a good bang for you buck set of headphones? I'm thinking around $50 is what I would like to spend. I'm not a fan of in-ear buds, and would probably prefer a closed set. thanks!

Koss makes the fairly decent Porta-Pro at $49. I think.

I hear good things about it - I know a couple of musicians who use them.

Don't expect high-end, obviously.

Sennheiser's great for closed, if you'd rather have open (better for long-time listening sessions), go with Grado (these are pretty great...I opted for the 80s, though, which some people don't find worth it, but the extra bass is welcome with the variety of music I listen to--the result is not too bass-heavy, but level and good; sparkling clarity).

Oh, and if you're using either for an iPod...you might want to get a headphone amp.

I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 "professional" headphones (silver). They sound quite good and can be found for < $100 (list for $199-$219). They are considered Senn's "entry" model in their professional series. Read reviews around the web...they are really top notch for $30-$40 more than you'd pay for headphones that are merely "good".

If I were you go for Shure E2c earphones. I had a pair and they are awesome and great value too!! They are noise cancelling (but not electronic noise cancelling which are not great when surrounding noise levels are low....there is an audible hiss (maybe too stong a word)....I had a pair of Sony NR buds which were $169 and crap )
Since I got a pair of E3c which are even better and match the ipod However the E2c are better value I think.

Try the Grado SR60, their recommended for usinfg with a ipod with no headphone amp, the SR80 aren't. You can get them from http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com for $69 and free shipping, least they were free shipping when I got mine a month ago. These headphones rock.

Sennheiser's are good also. but I love these grados.
