I searched and searched still could not find a precise and exhaustive answer to my question which is:

Would any of the devices discussed (Alchemy, EyeTV, Formac, etc.) provide sufficient quality of TV signal reproduction?

I am getting a 20'' Apple Cinema display and I would like to make my Powermac G5 Dual 1.8 the center of my entertainment needs. Basically, would the image provided by these devices be sufficient enough for me to get rid of my TV set and use the LCD display as my TV screen/TV?

What is your experience? If you would advise me whether the quality of image is sufficient to watch from ACROSS the room rather than just sitting right in front of the monitor.

I appreciate your help and input. Thanks!

Consider getting an HDTV tuner from your cable company:

Well, what if I am only interested in watching my basic cable? Ideally, I just want to hook up something to my TV or computer and watch TV. Right now I have a simple 20'' TV that I would like to retire. The distance between my couch and my LCD is about 12-15 feet. Please, excuse me if I sound as a hopeless luddite in this area.

A friend has the alchemy pci card inside his G5 1.8 (single), he also has the Apple 20" display, the quality he gets is really HIGH. Worthy for sure.

I had the same thought with my 23"... and have no clue how to do it...

I'm sure I'll figure it out by trial and error, but if you have a story to tell, post it!

Thanks.
