I recently purchased a new cablemodem because my old old constantly lost it's connection whenever I attempted to download large files (100+megs).

I bought a zoom brand modem that was compatible with my ISP (comcast) and I figured that if I just plugged it in everything would magically work.

I found out that I cannot even connect to the internet even though 'network settings' inside system preferences shows a working IP address.

do i have to configure anything with the new cable modem in order for it to work? i plugged in my old cablemodem and everything was working fine! (except big downloads of course)

Comcast has to know that you want to change your cable modem, call tech support and they can walk you through it.
