Airport extreme issues!

I recently purchased a new cablemodem because my old one didn't seem to work anymore. I called my ISP to have them reconfigure the modem, and everything went fine. Just today I plugged my airport extreme base station into the new cablemodem, but I don't get any connectivity at all.
I have created new networks and even reset the base station to factory settings, but I still cannot connect.
Any clues what might be going on? Thanks

Try unplugging the power to the cable modem and AEX. Wait a minute. Plug the modem back in and wait for it to get an IP. Watch the lights. Wait for them to look constant and normal. Then plug the AEX back in and try connecting.

whats up aaanorton. i tried that but it still did not work. i am on hold with applecare as we speak. the lady recommended that i try unplugging my cablemodem, basestation, and shutting down my powerbook and repowering after 5 minutes. i tried that, but it's still not working.
the weird thing is the airport shows a working IP address which has the lady stumped. i'm on hold because she's trying to get more information.

Are you plugged into the AEX or trying wireless? For testing, I would connect your computer to the AEX with an ethernet cable (make sure the cable works too). Is all security off?

funny you mention that because the lady on applecare said she went through all the troubleshooting steps before she told me to take the base station to the applestore and never mentioned that. good point i didn't even think of that one myself.
but i did try what you suggested and it still doesn't make a difference. no connection with the base either through the air or the ethernet port.
very strange. it was working perfect with my old cablemodem. maybe it's the new cablemodem? i thought they were all supposed to work fine. the guy from my ISP assured me that modem should be compatible with the base station, but who knows.
any other suggestions?

Try disconnecting the modem completely. Then connect to the base station. Obviously, you won't get on line, but just see if you get an IP. The IP will look like 10.0.x.x, I believe. If that works, plug your computer directly into the cable modem and try connecting that way. You should be able to get on line like this.
Also, compare the IPs you get from your ISP. Is the IP your AEX gets the same as the IP your computer gets when directly connected to the modem? If not, are they on the same subnet?

Can we make it any more obvious that Airport topics ALWAYS belong in the Networking forum?
