I recently got a 120GB hard drive to go with my G4 iBook and I'm wondering what to do with my older external and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
The older one is a Maxtor, 40GB with Firewire. It works great but I don't really have much need for it I'm OK for space (and if I needed even more, I'd just go and get a 250GB external).
Right now, I have my iPod stuff (about 23GB) backed up on it but I still have plenty of space on the new one. I thought about selling it but figure I won't get much for it these days and maybe I could figure something useful for it.
Any ideas?

The FW case is usually worth something, even if the drive itself isn't. eBay them, maybe separately.

Or sell the 40GB drive and get a bigger one. It's always good to have a backup drive. I'm not sure if you can boot from an external FW drive, but if you can, this is a great thing to have.

Yes, you can boot from FireWire drives. All chipsets sold nowadays support it. You can even boot from iPods (except for the mini, I believe).

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Yeah, I can boot from both, but with the newer (and larger) external, I really don't have need for the 40 anymore.
Any other ideas?

Hum... what does said external enclosure look like? I may be willing to take it off your hands for you (with or without the drive). Send me an email to eclipse2k69(AT)hotmail(DOT)com if you're interested.

Maybe I missed something here. You said "I recently got a 120GB hard drive to go with my G4 iBook". I was assuming this drive was internal. Is it external? If so, then you have the case and the drive to get rid of. Again, I'd eBay them - separately.

Besides that, I can't think of any use for your 40GB external drive that the new 120GB external drive wouldn't do better.
