just bought 20G iPod in Cambridge, MA. Nice package and stuff. goti it hooked up through the dock to my Ibook. so far, so good. it was happily chirping and launched iTunes iTunes updated iPod, even better... now I synced my contacts through the iSync you know. well the iPod's display just went blank, I mean if I push the buttons I can hear clicks but nothing on the screen. well I tried to do menu/play reset - still nothing on the screen except some 1 mm black line that would appear in the different parts of the screen. plugging, unplugging, resetting, restoring, AC adapter, FW charging nothing worked allright now, let's do some updates and see if it's going to help. so I did this iPod SW 2.2 update. ... and that baby just died. button don't work, it does not chirp or clicks anymore, no HD sound, again, plugging, unplugging, resetting, restoring, AC adapter, FW charging nothing worked and worse iBook does not see the device. What the @#%$ is going on ?!!! I used macs for 10+ yrs and had no major problems until I bought this thing....

Take a deep breath, then go back to the store and ask for a replacement.

These things happen.

It's not a conspiracy.

Just one thing. Aren't you supposed to charge the iPod for a specific period of time before doing anything with it? I remember doing that with both of mine. Meybe the battery needs a secific amount of charge to work and even connect?

One way of charging it is to connect it to the computer.

His is NOT exhibiting expected behavior.

Get AppleCare, then. Wouldn't trust your luck after having it die that quickly.

Something similar happened with mine. (Although not that soon.) Did they give you a replacement right at the store?
