I agree, Don't really understand that one. I am hoping for a color screen though, and some way to transfer images to it(better that Belkin).

It's a kick-ass machine.

How could you ever regret buying it if it does what you wanted it to do when you placed the order?

Positive outlook, but really: There's ALWAYS a new model around the corner.

tekno_geek911, the most important thing to think about is if you get an iPod mini, a silver one would match your powerbook pretty well, with all the silver aluminium and stuff.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

The 4G iPod is going to have the same Dock Connector we love, but it will be slightly smaller an thinner than the current iPods (not near the size of the mini). The main difference will be that the Mini controls (touch wheel with buttons on the wheel) will move it's way onto the 4G iPod. Advances in battery technology have allowed for a slightly smaller case design. That's all I know.

I'm not going to ask where you have this information from, but do you know anything about battery time?

If the battery have been advanced and is smaller, I think that they should keep it the same size and have a longer battery life unless it is already good enough small. Thats the only thing that I would need for improvement for my ipod. Well an easy way to hook up to my car too but battery life is defiantly number 1.

The information received was not technical in nature at all, just from a sales & marketing perspective. I know that doesn't make any sense but I have no information on hard drive, or what is different about the unit internally.

My guess at the new iPod is as follows:-

Same colours and overall design as the Mini, using the new combined wheel and buttons. Larger size of course but a bit slimmer than the current versions.

Screen will be the same as the current iPod, but better quality.

Sizes 20GB, 40GB, 60GB

Battery life 8 hours, no improvement there.

Prices, same as the current range.

The problem is that all the manufacturers of iPod accessories will now need to do a complete redesign - cases, voice recorders, fitted speakers, etc, etc as they will not match or in many cases not fit.

Computers - Au MacBook 2.4Ghz, iMac 24" 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo
iPods - 5GB original iPod, 4GB nano - Red, 1GB 2G shuffle - Silver, 4GB 3G Shuffle - Black, 16GB touch, 16GB nano Red, 16GB iPhone 3G.
OSX User Since Public Beta, current OS 10.6.1, iTS UK purchases - 5377 songs.... and growing!

This has been the case with every revision so far.

And I certainly hope that the voice recorder will be a superfluous accessory, come 4G iPods...

I think the voice recorder will still not be part of the core product.

Apple seem to have a good set-up with the manufacturers of accessories, I think they like this model.

i.e. keep the base product simple so that it suits everyone's needs and let the people who need more functions 'add' them via accessories.

If they start adding more and more, the product becomes bloated and looses it's 'simple' appeal.

My view is that less than 10% of buyers need a voice recorder so they will not add it to the core product, as the other 90% don't want to use it or more importantly pay for it.

I think the colors are horrible. I would probably seek out a 3G iPod on eBay before I bought a color-encased 4G iPod.

Please, keep the novelties to the mini. Just like the Powerbook, make the higher end component professional looking. This isn't a carnival.

You think the colors are horrible? The colors haven't been announced yet, just a rumor. Although, I believe you accidently hit it right on because the novelties are being kept to the Mini (and we all know how those carnival colors have been such a failure).

Please, keep the sniping at bay until after the announcement and you see the colors and see what they look like.

You could always go for Silver...

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear:

I meant that the custom voice recorder would be unnecessary because Apple would finally build-in real recording capability - though not necessarily the mic itself.

Yes, indeed. Total disaster.

I mean, *pink*!?

Apple said that there was a 162% increase in its music-based revenues, and that it was experiencing "staggering" demand in the US and "unprecendented" preorders worldwide for the iPod mini.
****ing pink is killing the company.

I think that was Spheric's point. The "experts" here predicted that nobody would buy a mini at $249 when you could get a much larger iPod for $50 more, and that pink was the second coming of Flower Power.

Apple is known for throwing curve balls, but I would be shocked if they did not offer a white iPod in the new line. It's an iconic image. Just look at their advertising. They don't even need to show the actual device any more; just the white shape with a screen and everyone knows it's an iPod.
