ok the guy at the palo alto apple store must have been looking at the refreshed prices because he quoted me incorrectly. the 15's are now 249, old 20's are 299, and the old 40 is 399.

bay street guy confirmed these prices. the old 20&40 pricing scheme is interesting. that explains why apple didn't include the case and remote for the new 40. they can still milk the prices of the old 3gs as much as they can

that's weird, this morning the iPod site said that the 40gb iPod did include the remote/case. I specifically remember noticing the difference between the accessories list for the 20 and 40 gig models. Now, though, they've changed that so the only difference between the 20 and 40 is the dock.

hi gang,

i checked apple soho and white plains and they were not available.

i got different answers from different people.

so i guess they will get a shipment in a day or two whenever the first shipments ship from the online store like the screens.

Hmm.. old and new 40gbs are at $399? I can see the 20 staying the same, since the old has the dock and remote, but what advantage would someone get by buying an older 40GB?

Oh come on, the case they included wasn't even a good one. I don't know a single person who actually used it, everyone goes out and gets a different case anyway.

The remote, on the other hand, should be included if you ask me.

I use the included case from my 3G iPod, but then you don't know me.
The remote should be included and I'm kind of surprised a better remote (backlit LCD, navigate thru music) isn't an optional accessory for both 3G and 4G.

I use the case when mowing the lawn. However, I can't believe Apple wants $39 for it separately. The remote... maybe.

I'm glad I have a 3G 40GB iPod and don't feel so bad about the new one with the so-called price cut.

And if anyone cares, refurbished 40GB 3G iPods are $329 at the apple store. That is a bargain!

People need to get off the case & remote exclusion. Both were not very good.

I was eyeing that 30, and it isn't even a refurb! (Call to Apple Store confirmed this.) This looks like a pretty good deal w/ all the accessories.... Going to see what the Apple Store in NH has tonight first. Guess my 1st Gen will go to my girlfriend!

Don't be mourning over the case. The remote is handy but the case was a piece of crap that from everyone I know who had one, the belt clip always broke within the first few days.
