My 4thG 40g came in today and I've never owned a dock before (I'm upgrading from a 1stG 10g). Is it ok if I let my iPod sit in its dock almost all the time, charging? Or is this hard on the battery? I'd only use it a few hours during the day, but have it docked the rest of the time. I only ask because I don't care to let my iPod sit on the desk when it could be relaxing in a dock.

It's better for the battery to leave it on the charger than to take it off and let the battery run down. Basically, the battery is good for x number of charge-discharge cycles. I leave mine plugged in all the time, and it's cruising along just fine.

Agreed, leave the iPod connected to the charger whenever you can. In addition to the fact the battery only has X-amount of recharges, if you are only charging from 90% or 75% those charges are actually partial charges. So the more often you charge your iPod the longer the battery life.
Congrats on your new iPod!!

One last question. I'ts fully charged. Should I let it run overnight (until it's out of power) like you're supposed to do with PB's?

You're not supposed to do that on the PowerBooks, either, except occasionally to recalibrate the battery.
