ok, so i've had it with my 3g 40gb iPod. im headed into NYC over the weekend, and was planning a visit to the apple store. what i want to know is if they will replace this faulty unit on the spot at the store, and if they will, will i need all of the packaging (dock, remote, power brick thing, ... you know ALL of it) or will just the iPod suffice?

oh, and is the warranty a year or 6 months? i got it as a christmas present... will i need the receipt? anything you all can tell me is more than i know at the moment.

I believe you need to call Apple and get a Case # to which the Apple phone support person can allow an exchange at the Apple Stores. Then, all you do is show the Apple Store the Case # and they can find out the history of the repair/service request. I would assume you would need "all pieces" as everything would be new that you would be receiving. Not for sure on that though...

Keep in mind, the Apple Stores are only going to exchange this if they have them in stock. Are Apple Stores even carrying 3G iPods anymore?
