G5 DVD Burners and Toast - Multilayer?

Now that toast supports dual layer DVD burning, does one require special hardware to take advantage of that? Or would the stock superdrives in the 1st gen dual 2's be capable of handling this? I know special media will be required..

the 8.5GB DVDs need a whole new dvd recorder.... no, you cannot burn them without a new drive and 8.5gb media
