my scanner stopped working when i upgraded to panther. i was wondering if theres any program that will still allow me to use my scanner so i don't have to purchase a panther compatable one.

Vuescan is the solution to your problem. I use it with my Canon scanner. Its not cheap, but it has a lot of features, and is very stable.
