Hello,
I'm having a Firewire harddrive on desktop problem.
I have a G4 OS9.1 SpeedTools by Intech Disk Utilities
In Short:
1. Mounted Firewire HD and loaded SpeedTools by Intech Disk Utilities that came with HD.
2. HD icon appeared on Desktop and was able to fully use the HD - did not format the drive because it worked so I assumed it was already HDST.
3. Used for a month and suddenly HD icon disappears from Desktop and HD is not asccessable.
4. HD is seen by G4 as mounted - Sherlock find can see folders and files but cannot access - Norton AntiVirus is able to check for Viruses on the files.
5. SpeedTools by Intech Disk Utilities see HD, but states that it is non-HDST and that it is in PC DOS format; however it can accomplish a drive test where Norton and Apple disk utilities cannot. Norton FileRecover does not see the HD.
6. So, the system sees the HD, but I cannot access it now.
I have tried many things - restarting - accessing through utilities without luck.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my files to read outside of going to a Windows computer or just giving up and reformatting the disk?
Thanks in Advance,
JTB
More Detailed:
I mounted the 160G Fantom external firewire harddrive about a month ago using SpeedTools by Intech Disk Utilities CDROM.
After Loading the software onto the G4, the Fantom drive icon appeared on the desktop, and I assumed that the drive was already formatted for the Mac for I was able to access and use it (so I didn't check).
I have used the drive for a month now and suddenly the HD icon disappears from the Desktop and HD cannot be accessed.
The ext. Firewire HD appears in the Apple System profiler, Sherlock Finder, Norton Fast Find - the files and folders can be seen, but cannot be accessed (Sherlock states that the folders are invisible and that the files may have been deleted). However, Norton Virus Check will perform a virus check on the files.
I checked the drive in the SpeedTools by Intech Disk Utilities and the Firewire drive appears as mounted but states that it has a non-HDST and that it is in PC DOS format.
I should have formatted the drive in HDST from the beginning but didn't check because the G4 was r/w to the HD just fine.
