Today I needed to purchase a new hard drive for offsite backup purposes. I have a $30 Staples coupon so I browse their online store and find this seemingly crazy deal:

Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM Ultra Internal Hard Drive Kit w/ Serial ATA Card
Includes a free Ultra ATA/133 and SATA/150 PCI combo card in the box
$130

Maxtor drive link.
So I have a Dual G4 800 and was initially intent on buying a 160 GB ATA drive for my external drive. But now I'm considering this deal. Would the Maxtor SATA PCI card properly function, has anyone tried it? Should I just get the regular ATA drive ($150) instead of the SATA drive? I'm at a bit of a loss since I haven't purchased SATA drives yet.

thanks

It is highly doubtfull that the card would work in a mac. A bummer since PC equip is SO DAMN CHEAP!

I think you are correct. I'm going to buy a Maxtor 120 GB ATA at Staples tomorrow.
