I recently switched from PC to Mac and got a new 17" Powerbook. Today I tried to update my Ipod and format it for Mac (I already have all my music files on the new Powerbook so loss of data is not a problem).
As soon as I connected the Ipod I got the message that Itunes has detected an Update for my Ipod and when I click 'Yes' to Install it now, I get an error message that says 'An Unepected error has occured' but no details as to what it is. After trying this a few times I figured perhaps it is because the Ipod was still Windows formatted so I went to Disk Utility and formatted the disk for Mac OS. I have since seen on the Apple website that this was perhaps a mistake, but can it be fixed? How do I solve this problem and get my Ipod working again with my new Mac?

If I can get hold of an original software disk in a Mac version from a friend will that help?

Is there something I can do actually on the Ipod itself to reset it to factory settings and then go from there?

Please help - any advice will be very much appreciated.....

Thanks,

Mr Mushroom

Can't you:
-disconnect your iPod
-download the iPod updater -usually it goes to Applications/Utilities/iPod Updater
-then, fire up the updater and select the "Restore" button rather than the "Update" button.

I have no idea if this will work for you, but as you are at an impasse with an otherwise hosed iPod, I don't see how it could hurt.
