What is the difference and which one is better? I got a superdrive with my new PB, will it work with both?

Thanks.

You need the -R media.

They're pretty much equivalent, just competing standards. OS X built-in support is for -R only. Some newer machines have combo (both +R and -R drives), but you'd have to use Toast to burn +R.

I tried burning a +R on Toast, and it started burning but about half way in the process it have me an error and stoped. My machine is a week old...any one knows if it can burn +R? Or just -R?

Thanks.

AFAIK, PowerBook superdrives are "-" only.

Newer desktop drives (Pioneer DVR-106 or higher, and certain Sony models) work with either "-" or "+" media as long as you have OS X 10.3.x.
However, OS X's "+" media burning support is limited to data only; no "+" support in the iApps. Finder burning is supported.

I've had no problem using "+" media, both +R and +RW, on my G5's superdrive.

Generally speaking, the hardware itself mostly seems to support -R media just fine. But Apple usually use their own firmware with the drives that does not support the -R format.
Often it is possible to install an official manufacturers firmware update over the Apple one, which will allow both formats to be used. I effectively did this on my Pioneer 107 drive. Also, the particular fimware update I used, is region free
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
