Help! I'm in Syquest hell! (Bet you haven't heard THAT in a while.)

Savvy and conscientious computer veteran that I was, I was careful to back up all my important documents. Unfortunately, I backed them up on SyJet disks.

I still think the old SyQuest EZ 135's were far better than the Iomegas of the day - I recall hearing the tormented shrieks of far MORE people in Iomega hell - but I fear SyQuest was starting to cut corners by the time of the SyJet.

I suddenly have need to salvage just a couple of text files off some of my old SyJet carts; hoping against hope I plugged everything back in, letting my self-terminating scanner serve as terminator, and booted off System 9. Lo and behold the test cart I'd loaded actually showed up after a little tinkering. Unfortunately, it wasn't the cart I needed.

My delight was short-lived as every other cartridge I tried thereafter, and the one that had so recently mounted as well, was no sooner loaded than promptly ejected with a beep...beep...beep that sounded, appropriately, like a small garbage truck backing up. I've tried reproducing the circumstances of the original mount, including cradling the SyJet in my lap, tilting it in various directions, and scowling thougtfully. Nothing worked.

Can anyone advise me on how to persuade my SyJet to accept and mount a cartridge just once more, as a final noble gesture before it goes to its final resting place, the box of parts and cables under my bed? Thanks!

Yours truly,

Count Bezukhov

If it's a SCSI drive, you might try this control panel:

I've got it to mount a variety of external drives in the past.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
