Hi,

My friend uses a Win XP and is interested in buying a small external HD in order to have his important files with him when he goes to the university. I told him that my iPod just does that in addition to being a MP3 player.

I would like to know whether the function - external HD to store files - is also available on a PC? Is this through FireWire or USB 2? Can it be through USB 1 eventhough it will be very slow?

Thanks.

Yes, it does mount as an external HD in WinXP. Works in both USB and Firewire ... USB 1 is painfully slow.

However, if all your friend wants is an external HD, one can find a portable 60gig external HD for about the same price as an iPod and only a little larger.
