I know there are apps out there like iPodRip to retrieve songs from an iPod, but is it possible to put songs onto an iPod from a machine it's not associated with (without wiping it and starting over)?

I carry around my iPod and PowerBook, but all my music is on my desktop at home, and so my iPod is associated with that machine. But sometimes I'm on the road and want to copy a few files to my iPod from my PowerBook without reloading everything on the iPod. I realize I could clear off some space on my PowerBook, use iPodRip to copy everything back, wipe the iPod, and copy all the music back to the iPod (which would then be associated with my PowerBook) plus the new stuff I want....but that's a lot of work.

Is it possible?

You must chose to "manually manage songs and playlist" from the iPod Preferences in each copy of iTunes you use the iPod with. iPod icon at the bottom of iTunes window.

You can use the iPod with all the computers you want, but it can only "sync" with one copy of iTune, because when you sync it copies songs to iTunes from the iPod.

This is a small bug of sorts that iTunes fools you in to thinking you need to reformat your iPod unless you turn of "sync".

I hope that's clear, it confused me at first trying to use it with 3 Mac's and a windows box, however it works right now.
