Nokia 6230

iBook G3 800Mhz OS 10.2.8

I have successfully paired the 2 devices and transferred sound files/pictures files and address contacts from iBook to Nokia via Bluetooth.

I want to install a Java game (.jar file) on the phone.

I have the file on my Mac and can send it to the the phone. However this does not install the game. The jar file is not recognised.

I understand if I was a PC user I could connect via Nokia PC Suite to actually install the game.

Similarly if I ran a G4 with Jaguar I could use Phone Director.

So I am stuck. How can I install Java games of jar file type from my iBook to my Nokia 6230 using Bluetooth?

I've heard about Phone Director, but it requires 10.3.3 (Panther) and I'm on 10.2.8. Phone Director also requires a G4 minimum and I'm on a G3.

Damn frustrating because PD would otherwise do the trick.

Moments like this when I wish I was a programming genius, so I could just write the software myself.

Check out this thread:

Check the 2nd or third page for an app called thinair. It was made by someone on this forum for the V600 but it might work with the Nokia. worth a try.

Thanks for the link. That thread on HOward forums throws up some useful info. So I need to Obex 'push' the file to phone rather than just send it.

I tried Thin Air but had no joy. It successfully sends the .jar file to the 6230 but does so in exactly the same way as normal OS X Bluetooth File Transfer. Ie end result is that the file is transferred, but the java game is not installed and the .jar not recognsied.

So frustrating because Phone Director would be the answer to my prayers but for the lack of a G4 and Panther!

Do you reckon it's worth trying Phone Director on a G3 OS 10.2.8, or are minimum system requirements to be treated as gospel?
