Hello all,
I want to hand down my good old first generation iPod to the brother, but need to know if this will work.
I assume we can format the player to MP3 and all he will need is a firewire card for his laptop. Anyone have any thoughts.
Thanks,

yes, it will work. I answered this exact same question a while back - search the archives.

format the player to mp3?
i was under the impression that the 1g ipods were either Mac or PC, and not flexible. i guess a search is the best answer though.

Hi K,
It will work. My friend give me his 1st G iPod 5Gb a yr ago and it works on my PC laptop using firewire(since is mini firewire, I have to use car adapter to charge...it's a pain). I have to reformat the iPod first and then the PC will regonized the iPod. The formating software is build in in the iTune or MusicMatch (which I used). If not reformat to PC format, PC won't see the iPod and it might also crash your PC.
Cheers,
DL
